Measuring the invisible

We turn advanced microscopy research into accessible tools for diagnosis, research and the development of new therapies. Our technology reveals how cells behave in real time, including changes associated with cancer and other diseases.

“Advanced microscopy, beyond the specialized lab.”

What we do:

At InDepth Focus, we bring together scientific research and product engineering to develop a new generation of microscopy instruments. From optics and electronics to software and intelligent imaging, we turn sophisticated research technology into practical, reliable products.

DIVER-Omega: A New Generation of Deep-Tissue Imaging

To understand disease, we need to see inside living tissue. But light scatters as it goes deeper, and most microscopes rely on stains that alter what they measure.

DIVER-Omega is a compact, intelligent microscope that uses multiphoton imaging to reveal tissue structure and cellular metabolism, with no dyes or fixation. Because samples need minimal preparation, it is being designed to work close to the patient.

Paired with AI-assisted analysis, it aims to give surgeons faster answers during surgery.

A large-area detector captures the photons conventional microscopes lose to scattering, collecting more light from thick tissue. In lab tests, it showed about 650× greater sensitivity than standard two-photon detection.

Reads the tissue's own signals, with no dyes or markers. Natural fluorescence from NADH and FAD shows metabolism, and collagen reveals structure.

Label-free by design

Designed for highly scattering tissue, it images several millimeters beneath the surface, revealing cellular structures and activity that conventional microscopes struggle to see.

Deep-tissue imaging

Combines fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM), hyperspectral imaging (HSI) and phasor analysis to measure cellular metabolism and tissue function.

Quantitative metabolic imaging

How it works

DIVER-Omega uses advanced spectroscopy to capture tissue's natural fluorescence, revealing metabolic signatures that can help distinguish healthy from cancerous tissue. Because it doesn't require staining or fluorescent markers, samples can be analyzed with minimal preparation.

Combined with AI-assisted analysis, DIVER-Omega aims to enable rapid tissue assessment near the patient, helping surgeons make more informed decisions during surgery.

AI-assisted analysis

Designed to help identify patterns in tissue structure and metabolism, supporting faster interpretation and more informed decisions.

Intelligent imaging

Smart imaging capabilities under development aim to automate complex adjustments, optimize image quality and simplify operation.

Compact, integrated design

A redesigned optical system, integrated electronics and intuitive software aim to bring advanced microscopy closer to where it's needed.

Faster tissue assessment

Minimal sample preparation and AI-assisted analysis aim to reduce waiting times and provide surgeons with timely information.

The team behind

We are researchers and engineers working as one team. InDepth Focus is a joint venture between the Advanced Bioimaging Unit, a platform of Institut Pasteur de Montevideo, UdelaR and Hospital de Clínicas, and Focus, a Uruguayan product engineering firm.
Science defines what the instrument has to see. Engineering makes it portable, simple and reliable enough to leave the lab.
